The next three issue series of Hairbutt comics went on sale on Australian newsstands in March 1993 and
featured 4 colour covers and 32 black and white interior pages. Hairbutt's distinctive hard boiled 'noir' persona was firmly established on the cover of issue 1 and the series won Favourite
Australian Comic Book Character at Ozcon 2 (the Australian comic book convention) in 1993. Jerry Wingenter, National Customer Service manager for Capital distribution, described Hairbutt the
Hippo comics in the April 1993 edition of Capital distributions 'Internal Correspondence' as "an Aussie original" and "a personal favourite". Spurred on by the success of their second series,
Jason and Bodine were featured on several TV talk shows and glossy magazines, all the while planning the release of their third series of Hairbutt comics on the American market. By now Paulos and
Bodine had won another award for Favourite Character at Ozcon 3 in 1994 as well as Favourite Title. During 1995-1996 Rat Race Comics was featured in the 'Ace' exhibition, which toured
Australia. |
